Tigers welcome UCF on Saturday for Senior Day

Memphis will honor Gazmyne Herndon at approx. 1:40 p.m. Saturday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team wraps up the home slate Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest against UCF. The home finale will serve as Memphis' Senior Day, as the Tigers will celebrate senior Gazmyne Herndon prior to tipoff against the Knights.Â

Herndon has been a two-year player for the Tigers, coming to Memphis from Walters State Community College in 2018. In 58 games for the Blue and Gray, Herndon has scored 408 points and has dished out 186 assists. This season, she is two assists shy from eclipsing 100.

Memphis enters Saturday's game with a 13-14 overall record and 4-10 mark in conference play. Freshman guard Madison Griggs notched her 16th game with at least three made triples against USF. She has 76 three-pointers coming into the contest against the Knights, two treys shy of matching the AAC freshman three-point record.

Although her streak of double-doubles was snapped against USF on Feb. 22, Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu continues to rank second in the AAC with 12 double-doubles this year. She is averaging 11.8 points and a team-leading 8.4 rebounds per game this season.

Memphis looks to even the season series against UCF after dropping the first meeting in Orlando on Jan. 25. The Tigers have won 16 of the 30 meetings against the Knights all-time. The last home win against UCF was on Jan. 28, 2017 by a score of 65-59.

UCF has won six out of its last seven conference games and comes to the Bluff City with a 17-9 overall record and 9-5 mark in AAC play. The Knights are currently in a three-way tie for second place in the league.

Senior Kay Kay Wright continues to lead the Knights, averaging 17.0 points per game overall and 18.1 points in conference play. She is three assists shy of cracking 100 this season and is the team-leader with 55 steals.

Brittney Smith also averages in double figures for the Knights, scoring 10.7 per game. Masseny Kaba is the team's leading rebounder at 6.7 boards per game.

The Knights are a consistent free throw shooting team, making 72.5 percent of their attempts. Wright is also the leader at the free throw line, hitting 84.9 percent (79-93) of her attempts.

Katie Abrahamson-Henderson is the head coach of the Knights and is currently in her fourth season at the helm.
