MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers continue their season opening home stand this weekend when they welcome Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Indiana to town this Thursday and Sunday, respectively.
Memphis is coming off an exhilarating weekend where they opened with a 4-0 shutout of Southeast Missouri State that saw Saorla Miller score three of the teams four goals, which earned her the American Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week award, and Jocelyn Alonzo net her first collegiate goal.
The Tigers would turn around and face-off against No. 23 Ole Miss on Sunday night that saw them and the Rebels play to a 1-1 (2OT) draw. Alonzo scored the goal for Memphis in the 27' off a save that rebounded off Ole Miss goalkeeper, Ashley Orkus.
"This past weekend was a great showing for us. There are still some things we need to tweak going into next weekend, but myself and the coaching staff are very pleased with the outcome of our first two games" said head coach Brooks Monaghan.
Memphis will start this weekend against a young Arkansas-Pine Bluff team who comes into Thursday night's match 0-2 overall. Thursday's match will be the Tigers Senior Day where they will honor Elizabeth Moberg, Lydia Herring, Caroline Duncan, and Claire Abrey.
"These four outstanding young ladies have put so much hard work and dedication into this program over the last several years and we are so excited to be able to honor them," said Monaghan.
Indiana (1-0-1), who will face-off against UT Martin before making their way to Memphis on Sunday, is coming off a tie with a strong Notre Dame team. Despite not being able to find the back of the net, the Hoosiers were able to fire off five shots against the Fighting Irish defense.
"Indiana is tough, and I think this match-up is going to be similar to what we had against Ole Miss," said Monaghan. "They've got a fairly new coach who has really turned the program around and we're going to have to clean some things up from this past weekend to be able to give ourselves the best chance against them."
Both matches will have live stats available on GoTigersGo.com while Sunday's match against Indiana will be available to watch on ESPN+.
