MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Head softball coach Natalie Poole and company will open the 2022 season in Mexico this week as they take part in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Tigers, who finished last season 9-41, 2-22 AAC, return a large portion of their roster including Alyssa Dean, Kendall Lee and Gracie Morton, who were three of the top hitters for Memphis a season ago. Dean, Lee and Morton were also three of just five players to play and start in at least 45 games last season.
A season ago, Dean led the team with a .302 batting average with six homeruns and 39 hits. Along with Dean, Lee and Morton hit .270 or better for the Tigers with Morton leading the team with 40 hits and Lee driving in a team-best 27 RBI.
Kailey Hilderbrand and Hallie Siems return to the pitching circle for Memphis after recording 66 combined strikeouts and 38 appearances between the two.
Coach Poole also welcomes a batch of fresh faces with 11 true freshmen on the roster this year.
Memphis opens the season at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge where they will face-off against Rutgers and Lamar on Thursday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. They will then take on Long Beach State and Arkansas for the second session on Friday before rounding out the tournament on Saturday for another match-up with Long Beach State at 12:30 p.m.
