May 19, 2022 | Baseball
Memphis: 11, Tulane: 3
WP: Landon Gartman (6-1)
LP: Dylan Carmouche (5-4)
SV: N/A
How it happened:
- The Tigers got three-straight one-out hits in the top of the first inning, as an RBI single by LF Ian Bibiloni put Memphis in front 1-0, while 3B Logan Kohler followed with a sacrifice fly, as the Tigers led 2-0 after half an inning
- Gartman struck out the side in the bottom of the first on just 11 pitches and retired the first 10 that he faced, 15 of the 16 he faced overall, and matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts
- Memphis added three runs in the second, as an RBI groundout by 2B Braden Webb made it 3-0, while consecutive two-out RBI hits from SS Ben Brooks and DH Jacob Compton, which made it 5-0 Memphis after 1.5 frames
- The Tigers added a run in the third on a sacrifice fly from C Taylor Howell and another in the fourth on a solo home run by Bibiloni, as his seventh home run of the season made it 7-0
- C Bennett Lee broke up Gartman's perfect game bid and shutout with a solo home run in the fourth, but the Memphis starter struck out the next five hitters that he faced to cap off his outing
- Tulane plated a run in the sixth and had two on with only one out down by five, but LHP Jacob Gilmore got out of the jam and kept Memphis in front 7-2 after six innings
- The Tigers busted the game open with four runs in the seventh, as PH Austin Baskin had an RBI single, Brooks followed with an RBI base hit, his third hit of the game, and Kohler connected on a two-out, two-strike, two run single that gave the Tigers an 11-2 lead
- Tulane added a run in the ninth, but RHP Chase Kessinger stranded the bases loaded and closed out Memphis' 11-3 win
