Tigers Continue Homestand with UT Martin and East Carolina

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A season-long 10-game homestand continues this week for the Memphis Tigers (20-21, 5-10), as they host UT Martin (10-28, 3-15) in the Babe Howard Classic at USA Stadium Tuesday before a matchup with AAC leading East Carolina (27-18, 11-4) over the weekend. Memphis will honor 15 seniors prior to Saturday's game vs. the Pirates, while the Tigers program will honor coach Daron Schoenrock and his 18 years at the helm of the program prior to Sunday's series finale.

Memphis leads the all-time series with UT Martin 34-6 and enters Tuesday's matchup with eight straight wins over the Skyhawks. The last four meetings have been at USA Stadium in Millington, while the Tigers haven't lost to UT Martin since 2010. The Skyhawks enter the midweek matchup off a three-game sweep at the hands of Morehead State and haven't played a midweek game since a 13-2 loss at Mississippi State April 5. UT Martin picked up an early season 7-6 win at Alabama. The Skyhawks dropped two of three at North Alabama, who also beat the Tigers, while they dropped two of three to SIUE, who the Tigers took a series from in March. UT Martin is last in the OVC in BA (.245), doubles (62), hits (310), home runs, (32), OBP (.341), scoring (5.1 RS/G), K/9 (7.3), and WHIP (1.83).

Memphis is just 2-11 in the last 13 meetings with the Pirates and 19-40 all-time vs. East Carolina, with the last win over East Carolina in Memphis back in 2016. The Pirates have won four of five conference series, with sweeps over Cincinnati and UCF, with the lone series loss at Tulane. East Carolina started the season 1-5, and 14-13, but is 13-5 since, as the Pirates sit atop the AAC standings. As a team, East Carolina ranks first in the conference with a .984 fielding percentage, sixth in the nation, while the Pirates lead the AAC in hits (419), K:BB (2.79), and K/9 (10.0). Lane Hoover is second in the conference with a .367 batting average and 62 hits, while Garrett Saylor leads the AAC in strikeouts (73) and K/9 (12.47).
