Memphis Drops Series to East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Memphis volleyball team dropped its series finale to East Carolina on Friday afternoon, falling in the final match 3-1.
The Tigers (8-15, 4-7 AAC) put together a solid performance in the first set, taking the 25-14 win, before dropping the final three sets in the match.

East Carolina 3, Memphis 1
Set One
- East Carolina got off to a quick start with an early lead before Memphis strung together a 7-1 run. The Tigers were aided by kills from Tabytha Toelke and Jordan Heatherly, while taking advantage of multiple attacking errors from the Pirates.
- Memphis held the lead into the media timeout, extending it to five points before forcing a Pirate timeout. The Tigers extended their lead further with big performances at the net from Heatherly and Clara Bednarek.
- The Tigers closed out the set 25-14, going on an 8-2 run capitalizing off Pirate attacking errors.
- Memphis and East Carolina opened set two trading points with the Pirates holding a slight lead over the Tigers into the media timeout.
- Kills from Francesca McBride and Carlia Northcross paired with attacking errors from Memphis extend the Pirate lead by five late in set two, forcing two Tiger timeouts. East Carolina would go on to take the set 25-18.
- Memphis and East Carolina traded points once again to open the set. Kills from Autumn Flynn and Reilly Briggs helped the Tigers keep it close.
- The Pirates began to break away midway through the third, going on a 4-1 run with big performances at the net defensively aiding them.
- Despite their best efforts, including back-to-back kills from Bednarek, the Tigers dropped the set 25-20.
- The Pirates and the Tigers exchanged points and runs early in the fourth with Memphis gaining a slight lead midway through the set, forcing an early Pirate timeout.
- East Carolina brought it back within one late in the set, forcing a Memphis timeout. The Pirates were assisted by kills from Angeles Alderete and along with Tiger errors.
- The Pirates ended on a 10-3 run to take the final set 25-20.
Notables
- Two Tigers finished with a hitting percentage over .300: Bednarek (.370) and Briggs (.333).
- Toelke recorded her fifth double double of the season with 13 digs and 10 kills.
- Two Tigers notched double digit kills: Bednarek (13) and Toelke (10)
- Three Tigers tallied double digit digs: Abigail Schlueter (15), Toelke (13) and Rylee Busse (10).
