Memphis Drops Match to Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Memphis volleyball team dropped its first match of a two-match series, 3-1, to Florida Atlantic Friday night.
The Tigers (8-18, 4-10) recorded 44 kills, 57 digs, nine blocks and five service aces in the match, but struggled at the net recording a .151 clip in the match.

FAU 3, Memphis 1
Set One
- Memphis and Florida Atlantic opened the match going back and forth with the Owls taking a slight lead over the Tigers that forced a Memphis timeout. Memphis went on a 3-0 run out of the timeout, closing the gap FAU created.
- The Owls put together a 9-0 run and forced another Tiger timeout midway through the set. FAU closed out the set, 25-12.
- The Tigers came out strong in set two and took early lead. Memphis capitalized off kills from Madison Rice-Locket and a big block from Clara Bednarek and Reilly Briggs.
- FAU put together small runs of its own, tying it back up midway through the set. The Owls and the Tigers continued the set trading points back and forth.
- The Owls broke away late in the set, taking it 25-21. Memphis put up a fight forcing two-set points with a kill from Bednarek.
- Memphis and FAU opened the third set trading points. The Tigers took a slight lead off the back of a big block from Jordan Heatherly and Autumn Flynn.
- The Tigers held the lead midway through the set, forcing an Owl timeout after a Rylee Busse ace.
- Memphis continued to hold the lead late into the set, forcing a FAU timeout to break up the momentum. The Tigers held on taking the set 25-19, aided by back-to-back aces from Catalina Martinez.
- The Owls began pulling away early in the fourth set, going on a 6-0 run and forcing a Tiger timeout. FAU held the lead midway through the set, capitalizing on Memphis attacking errors.
- FAU stretched the lead late in the set with strong performances at the net. Memphis tried breaking up the momentum with kills from Heatherly and Briggs, however the Owls went on to take the set 25-20.
- Three Tigers recorded eight kills in the match: Rice-Locket, Briggs and Bednarek.
- Bednarek led the Tigers in blocks with five, followed closely by Briggs with four.
- Abigail Schlueter and Busse both came away with double-digit digs, Schlueter leading with 14.
