Tigers Host Northwestern State and Indiana

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger softball team will host Northwestern State and Indiana March 17-18, their last weekend before conference play begins. The Tigers (4-19) will play Northwestern State at 4:30 p.m. and Indiana at 7 p.m. on Friday night, followed by games against Indiana at 2:30 p.m. and Northwestern State at 5 p.m. Saturday.
"We are looking forward to this weekend and seeing the progress we've made since last weekend." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. " We've been setting goals with our pitchers and our hitters and we are looking forward to seeing those executed this weekend."
Northwestern State (12-10) is currently on a two-game losing streak and are 6-8 on the road and are coming off a a loss at LA Tech on Tuesday. Indiana is 15-9 on the season and is posting an eight-game win streak, with its most recent win against Belmont on Tuesday. The Hoosiers are 12-8 away from home this season.
Memphis came away with a win in the Tiger Classic last weekend, defeating Indiana State 10-9, with a walk off one-run single by Neely Taylor in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete the win. The Tigers recorded 21 hits, 14 runs, 14 RBIs and three homeruns through the Tiger Classic.
Three Tigers are currently hitting .300 or higher: Senior Kendall Lee, senior Sam Ibison and sophomore Linsay Hargis. Senior Aliana Zavala leads the team in homeruns with four and RBIs with 11, recording one homerun and three RBIs in the game against Indiana State on March 10. Senior Meagan Chism and Lee follow closely, Lee with two homeruns and nine RBIs and Chism with one homerun and eight RBIs.
Pitcher Hallie Siems recorded her first one-hit shutout against Youngstown State on March 8. Siems followed up with 11 strikeouts through 14 innings played in the Tiger Classic.
