MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is back in Memphis for a three-game weekend series with Indiana State at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field. Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday night, Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Tigers (8-5) are on a three-game skid that includes a pair of one-run losses (9-8 at Nicholls, 4-3 at ULM). They will aim to get back on track against an Indiana State team that comes into the weekend with a record of 4-8 with wins each of its last two times out over SEMO.
"We're going to coach our guys up, get them to play better and get ready for a tough opponent this weekend in Indiana State," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "They're a quality club that is always putting themselves in a position to play at a high level, so we need to be ready for that."
Last Friday night at Nicholls, Dalton Fowler earned the win for Memphis, throwing six innings of five-hit baseball and striking out nine while allowing just one earned run. He lowered his season ERA to 3.31. He is in line to make his fourth start of the year against the Sycamores on Friday night.
Left-hander JT Durham will make his third-consecutive Saturday start for the Tigers. He carries a 3.07 season ERA over 14.2 innings, racking up a dozen strikeouts and allowing just four walks. Freshman Seth Garner is slated for his fourth-consecutive Sunday start to open the season and comes into the weekend 0-1 with nine strikeouts in 12.2 innings.
The Sycamores are led offensively by Mike Sears' four home runs and 14 RBI to go with a .261 batting average. Parker Stinson (.333), Seth Gergely (.324, five SB) and Luis Hernandez (.306) all come into the weekend batting over .300.
The all-time series between Memphis and Indiana State is tied at 5-5, with the Sycamores taking two games from the Tigers a season ago in Terre Haute.
All fans will receive free admission to Tiger home games in February and March, and kids ages 12 and under get in free all season long. Half-season ticket packages are available at GoTigersGo.com for all games beginning in April.
