ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Memphis baseball team is in Orlando for a three-game American Athletic Conference series with UCF at John Euliano Park. Games are scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday's finale is slated for a noon first pitch.
On Tuesday, Memphis (18-16, 2-4) won a thriller in Oxford, Miss., over defending national champion Ole Miss, 11-9. The Tigers rallied for four runs in the ninth on back-to-back-to-back home runs by Austin Baskin, Logan Kohler and Cameron Benson. Closer Dalton Kendrick slammed the door in the bottom of the ninth for his NCAA-leading ninth save of the season to clinch the Tiger win.
"Hopefully, we enjoy this win and prepare ourselves for the conference weekend against UCF," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "Hopefully this gives us some momentum to have a good weekend and put ourselves in position to win a series."
The Knights (18-15, 1-5) enter the matchup after winning a mid-week game over Stetson, 7-1, on Tuesday. Offensively, UCF is led by Ben McCabe (.384 BA, 12 HR, 25 RBI) and Andrew Sundean (.347 BA, 7 HR, 27 RBI).
UCF leads the all-time series with Memphis, 30-26. The Tigers took two-of-five games with the Knights last season, with UCF winning the last matchup.
First baseman Anthony Hansen has hit safely in 28-of-32 games this season and carries a team-high .339 average to go with a team-leading 10 home runs, 24 RBI and .430 on-base percentage. Austin Baskin is three hits shy of Hansen for the team lead in hits (40) and is batting .308 with eight doubles on the year, slugging four home runs and knocking in 17 runs. In addition, Baskin has tallied a team-best 13 multi-hit games this season.
Memphis' probable starters for the weekend are right-hander David Warren (2-3, 5.53 ERA), lefty Dalton Fowler (3-3, 3.92 ERA) and freshman righty Seth Garner (1-2, 4.75 ERA).
