Tigers Drop Game One to Knights in Orlando
Apr 14, 2023 | Baseball
With the setback, Memphis moves to 18-17 (2-5) on the season. The Knights improved to 19-15 (2-5) on the year with win.
"They played better than us and capitalized on our mistakes and we didn't capitalize on theirs," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "We have to come out tomorrow and do our best to tie this thing up and then try to win the series. We have Dalton [Fowler] on the mound in game one and we know we'll get a good outing from him, so we just have to be able to match that intensity and effort."
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Knights got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning, pushing five runs across on five hits.
• The Tigers responded in the next half inning, getting on the board with a Will Spears RBI single in which Cameron Benson hustled all the way around from first base to score.
• UCF tacked on three runs to its lead in the bottom of the fifth on a three-run home run by Lex Boedicker to make the score 8-1.
• Memphis got a run in the top of the sixth on a two-out single by Shane Cox that brought home Brayland Skinner.
• The Knights got a run right back in the bottom half of the sixth and the Tigers scored their final run on a bases-loaded groundout by Logan Kohler that scored Jake Curtis in the top of the seventh.
• UCF added two in the seventh and another run in the eighth to make it a final score of 12-3.
NOTABLES
• Spears and Cox each tallied a pair of hits and an RBI in the game.
• Kohler ended the game 1-for-4 with his 21st RBI of the year – three behind Anthony Hansen for the team lead.
• Benson finished the night 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.
• Curtis went 1-for-4 with a run scored and his eighth stolen base of the year.
