SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Memphis softball team picked up its first American Athletic Conference win against UTSA, 8-2, on Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas, behind a pair of home runs by Francesca Lumpp.
The Tigers (4-27, 1-11 AAC) got things moving early, getting on the board first with solo shots off the bats of Lumpp and Zoe Adebayo in the top of the third inning. Memphis continued to widen the gap by putting up two or more runs in the fourth and fifth frames of the game.
Lumpp added a second home run to her stat line, driving in two more runs in the fourth to propel the Tigers forward with a steady lead of 5-0. Memphis held onto its advantage and allowed just two hits by the Roadrunners in the win.
"I thought the team responded well after yesterday. We had good energy in the dugout, lots of quality at-bats, and a good start from Taniyah [Brown]," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said.
