Tigers Drop Series to Mean Green on Sunday Afternoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its American Athletic Conference series finale to North Texas 9-0 Sunday afternoon at Tiger Softball Complex.

The Tigers (5-37, 1-20 AAC) struggled early allowing the Mean Green (28-19, 15-6 AAC) to jump out to a quick lead. Memphis was able to find some momentum with a run in the fourth inning, but it was not enough to overtake North Texas.

HOW IT HAPPENED

•       North Texas got out to a quick lead putting up three runs in the top of the first inning.
•       The Mean Green extended their advantage as Morgan Medford reached home on an error by the pitcher in the top of the second.
•       Taniyah Brown recorded the Tigers' first hit of the game with a one-out single up the middle in the bottom of the second frame. She would be left stranded after back-to-back strikeouts.
•       North Texas doubled its lead in the top of the third, with three runs coming from a Lexi Cobb home run to right field.
•       The Mean Green added their final run of the game as Mikayla Smith homered to left field in the top of the fourth.
•       Zoe Adebayo got things cooking for Memphis in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff single up the middle. Adebayo then stole second and advanced to third before Drue Thomas sent an RBI single to center field allowing Adebayo to come home for the Tigers' lone run of the game.

NOTABLES

•       Four Tigers tallied hits against the Mean Green: Aaliyah Dixon, Adebayo, Brown and Thomas.
•       Adebayo went 1-for-3 with one run scored in the matchup.
•       Abigail Morgan got the start in the circle going 3.1 innings with one strikeout in the game. Brown entered in relief in the top of the fourth, recording 1.2 innings of work.

UP NEXT

•       The Tigers will head back on the road for a midweek at Jackson State on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
