Memphis Takes Comeback Win Against Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Memphis softball team picks up a midweek win over Jackson State, 5-2, after coming from behind on Wednesday night at JSU Softball Field in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Tigers (6-37, 1-20 AAC) gave up two runs before popping off in the top of the sixth inning scoring three runs on back-to-back at-bats to take the lead. Memphis extended its advantage by two in the closing inning before taking home the win.
McKaylee Polk and Zoe Adebayo led the charge tallying four of five RBI against Jackson State with Taniyah Brown pacing the Tigers from the circle with seven strikeouts.
"We got a good start from our pitcher and played good defense," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "I was proud of how the offense responded after giving up two runs, we scored the next two innings."

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Khamiyah Brown found herself in scoring position in the top of the second after singling to the shortstop and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, however was unable to convert a run for the Tigers.
• Jackson State loaded the bases as Bejia Allen drew a walk with two outs on the board in the bottom of the third frame but the Memphis defense held strong keeping the game scoreless.
• Jackson State got on the board first as Jace Jackson reached on an error by the pitcher allowing two baserunners to reach home in the bottom of the fifth.
• Adebayo cut the score in half as she fired off an RBI double to center field bringing in Aaliyah Dixon in the top of the sixth frame. The Tigers took the lead in the next at-bat as Polk sent a two-run homer over the fence, making the score 3-2.
• Memphis kept its foot on the gas in the top of the seven doubling the lead as Kennedy Semien hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Arianna Cox-Cole to reach home. Adebayo notched her 20th RBI of the season singling to right field bringing in Dixon.
