Memphis Hosts East Carolina in Final Homestand

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team returns to Tiger Softball Complex to host East Carolina for the final homestand of the season. The series begins Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m., then games Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
The Tigers (6-37, 1-20 AAC) picked up a midweek win over Jackson State, 5-2, on Wednesday night. Memphis scored all five runs in the final two innings, with four of the five runs coming off the bats of McKaylee Polk and Zoe Adebayo.
This will be the 50th, 51st and 52nd meeting between Memphis and East Carolina, with the Pirates holding the advantage 32-17 all-time. The Tigers took home a 6-3 win last time out on April 16, 2023.
"This series is another opportunity for us to compete within our conference. We need a good start from our pitcher and clean defense to give us a shot," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "We've seen success when we can figure that out and execute our game plan."
Mckaylee Polk leads the Tigers offensively, slashing a team-best .286/.440 this season, with Adebayo and Arianna Cox-Cole following with .274 and .260 batting averages, respectively. Cox-Cole is the Tigers' top base stealer, swiping 13 on the year, tied for fourth most in the conference.
Adebayo continues to be a leading run producer for the Tigers, driving in a team-high 20 RBI, including two against Jackson State on Wednesday, while scoring 11 of her own.
Taniyah Brown paces the team with 120.2 innings pitched, eighth most in the conference, and has recorded 72 strikeouts this season. Rylee Dugar follows with 76.2 innings of work.
East Carolina (33-16, 9-12 AAC) is riding a two-game win streak after defeating North Carolina, 6-4, in a midweek matchup on Tuesday evening.
The Pirates carry a .316 batting average, led by Emma Jackson, who is slashing a team-best .412/.739, second best in the AAC, with 46 runs and 45 RBI this season.
Morgan Johnson and Taylor Woodring follow, hitting .393 and .358 respectively, with Johnson batting in a conference-best 46 RBI this season.
East Carolina sports a 2.95 team ERA and is led in the circle by Taylor Apple's 2.54 ERA. She's tallied 12 wins with 97 strikeouts in 140.2 innings of work. Addie Bullis trails with a 2.74 ERA and 11 wins in 28 appearances this season.
