BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– The University of Memphis (10-18, 1-12 American) volleyball team dropped a three-set match to UAB (11-14, 4-9 American) inside Barlow Arena Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis started strong in the opening frame with kills from Zaniah Hoskins, Za'Niya Boyles and Jasmyn Tate to build a 9-4 lead. UAB answered with kills of its own to tie the set at 10. Both teams traded points down the stretch, with Hoskins and Mia Reese exchanging kills for their respective sides. The Blazers capitalized on a Memphis attack error, a service ace and a late kill from Jorda Crook to secure the set, 25-23.

UAB opened the second set with a 4-0 run before Brianna Washington put the Tigers on the board with a kill. The Blazers extended their lead to 10-4 before Hoskins, Boyles and Janyah Henderson sparked a 6-0 Memphis run to even the score. However, UAB regained momentum behind another 5-0 stretch fueled by Tiger attack errors to make it 18-12. Hoskins and
Boyles tried to lead a late comeback but kills from Crook and Abby Jones sealed the set for UAB, 25-20.

Memphis showed resilience in the third, grabbing an early lead behind kills from Hoskins and Tate. The set remained tight throughout, with Washington and Boyles combining for key blocks to keep the Tigers within reach. Memphis fought off multiple match points before a kill from Crook closed out the frame, 25-23, to complete the sweep.

NOTABLES

Zaniah Hoskins led the offense with 12 kills and 14 points.
Za'Niya Boyles followed with career highs of 11 kills and 12.5 points.
Setter Maddy Bach tallied 20 assists in tonight's match.
- Bach has now put up 20-plus assists in 10 matches this season.
Taylor Hampton made her debut as the libero, recording a career high of 15 digs.
Janyah Henderson put up four block assists.
