Memphis Falls in Series Opener Against North Texas

DENTON, Texas – Memphis Tigers (14-16, 3-4 AAC) softball fell to North Texas (20-10, 3-4 AAC) on Friday by a score of 11-3 in five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Texas took an early lead in the bottom of the first.
- Tatum Sparks plated the first run with a solo home run.
- Rylee Nicholson plated another run on an RBI single.
- After Memphis turned to Lyrical Bennett in relief, Kailyn Bearpaw registered an RBI groundout.
- The final run of the inning came off the bat of Madison Conley, who singled to left field but was thrown out at second to end the inning.
- The Tigers tallied their first run on an RBI single off the bat of Mia Brown.
- Both sides went scoreless in the third, with North Texas leaving a runner stranded at second base.
- In the fourth inning, Faith Brown hit a looping shot to the outfield to bring home Memphis' third run.
- The Mean Green extended its lead back to two runs with an RBI single off the bat of Tatum Sparks.
- North Texas plated two more runs in the fourth inning from a sacrifice fly by Riley McNemar and an RBI single by Cierra Simon.
- The Mean Green put together a four-run fifth inning, which ended the game due to mercy rule.
- A sacrifice fly from Madison Conley plated the first run of the inning.
- Emma Grahmann recorded a triple that scored two runs to extend the North Texas lead to seven runs.
- An RBI single by Riley McNemar gave the Mean Green an eight-run lead, enacting the mercy rule and ending the game.
NOTABLES
- Neely Taylor finished with a 2-for-3 performance in her team-leading 30th start of the season.
- She moves into the team lead in batting average (.382) and hits (34).
- Taylor also moves into second on the team in runs scored with 19.
- With a 1-for-2 performance including a sacrifice fly, Mia Brown recorded the first multi-RBI performance of her collegiate career.
- Faith Brown finished the evening with one hit and one RBI.
- For the second time this season, both Faith and Mia Brown recorded RBIs in the same game, having previously done it against ULM on March 2.
- Zoe Adebayo went 1-for-3 with a double. It was her eighth double, which now puts her tied for the team lead with Kennedy Semien.
