DENTON, Texas – Memphis (14-17, 3-5 AAC) softball fell to North Texas (21-10, 4-4 AAC) by a score of 13-7 Saturday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.

"This group has a lot of fight in them," said head coach Trena Prater. "I am proud of our offense and defense for making adjustments to give us an opportunity to win both games. I was disappointed with giving up nine runs in one inning, with five of them coming with two outs. I know that our pitchers are better than that. We have to keep the ball in the park and start games off stronger."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Memphis scored the first run of the game in the second inning when Shelby Durbin reached on a throwing error, allowing Arianna Cox-Cole to score.
North Texas took a lead in the following half inning with a two-run home run by Kailyn Bearpaw.
The Tigers utilized a safety squeeze to tie the game in the top of the third, with Kennedy Semien scoring after Faith Brown successfully laid down the bunt.
After advancing to third base on Brown's bunt, Arianna Cox-Cole scored on a double steal that allowed Memphis to retake the lead.
A triple by Aubrey Williams brought home Memphis' third run of the inning, scoring Drue Thomas.
- Thomas had entered as a pinch runner for Faith Brown.
In the next at-bat, Neely Taylor singled through the right side to score Williams and give the Tigers a three-run lead.
North Texas answered in the bottom half of the fourth inning with a solo home run off the bat of Madison Conley.
In the fifth inning, Faith Brown hit a looping shot that resulted in a double. Due to a throwing error by the North Texas defense, Brown and Arianna Cox-Cole were able to score to make the score 7-3 in favor of Memphis.
North Texas took the lead with a nine-run fifth inning.
- Cierra Simon hit a two-run home run to left center to cut Memphis' lead to just two runs.
- A sacrifice fly from Kailyn Bearpaw made it a one-run game.
- A wild pitch during the following at-bat tied the game at seven runs apiece.
- A two-RBI double off the bat of Tatum Sparks put North Texas ahead for the first time since the second inning.
- Riley McNemar plated two runs with a home run to extend the Mean Green lead to four runs.
- Elizabeth Moffitt lined a single to right field for the ninth run of the inning for North Texas.
The Tigers had runners at first and third in the top of the sixth, but Mia Brown lined out to first base to end the scoring chance.
Ausha Moore extended North Texas' lead to six runs with a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kayleigh Smith entered in the seventh inning for the Mean Green and only allowed one hit in the final frame.

NOTABLES

Rylee Dugar takes the loss in the circle for Memphis, dropping to 5-7 on the season.
North Texas' nine runs in the fifth inning were the most allowed in a single inning by Memphis this season.
- The Mean Green's five home runs were also the most allowed in a single game by the Tiger pitching staff this season.
In her team-leading 31st start of the season, Neely Taylor logged her second two-hit performance of the weekend, also recording one RBI.
Arianna Cox-Cole recorded her seventh multi-hit game of the season, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored.
Faith Brown recorded one hit and one RBI, coming on the squeeze play that tied the game at two runs each in the fourth inning.
Aubrey Williams went 1-for-3 at the plate, registering the first triple of her collegiate career.
Zoe Adebayo went hitless in three at-bats while drawing a walk, extending her on-base streak to nine games.
- Adebayo also had an eight-game hitting streak coming into today's game that was snapped.
