Mar 06, 2025 | Softball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tigers softball (11-11) is set to begin American Athletic Conference play with a road series against Tulsa (10-10). All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
This will be the first AAC series for head coach Trena Prater as a Memphis Tiger and Memphis's 11 wins going into conference play are the most for the program since 2022.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers enter their first conference series of 2025 with momentum after defeating Central Arkansas, 7-6, in extra innings on Wednesday.
The duo of Kennedy Semien and Neely Taylor at the top of Memphis' order has given the Tigers consistent production through 22 games this season. Semien leads Memphis in batting average (.400), hits (20), runs scored (20), walks (14) and is second on the team with 15 RBIs. Taylor is the only Memphis player to have started all 22 games and has recorded six doubles, one triple and one home run while producing 23 hits.
Zoe Adebayo has been a stalwart in the middle of the Memphis lineup all season. She currently leads the team in OPS (1.136), home runs (5), RBIs (19) and slugging percentage (.724). She has also been a versatile player, making starts behind the plate and at first base.
Memphis' pitching staff currently holds a 4.01 ERA and has held opponents to a .276 batting average. Rylee Dugar currently leads the Tigers with 33 strikeouts and is tied with Taniyah Brown in wins with four. Brown leads the staff in ERA (3.22), innings pitched (50) and complete games with four.
The Memphis pitching staff has slightly cooled off as of late, but still carries a tandem in Rylee Dugar and Taniyah Brown that has carried much of the load in the circle. Dugar leads the Tigers in strikeouts with 33, while Brown leads the team in innings pitched (50) and ERA (3.22). All four members of the pitching staff (Brown, Dugar, Jericho Tate, Lyrical Bennett) have thrown a complete game after Bennett's 174-pitch, eight-inning complete game against Central Arkansas on Wednesday.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE
Tulsa opens AAC play after going 3-1 in the Hurricane Classic before falling in its weekend finale at No. 16 Oklahoma State.
The Golden Hurricane are led offensively by Claira Skaggs. The senior infielder holds a .365 batting average and also leads Tulsa in hits (19), doubles (4), RBIs (16) and is tied for the team lead in home runs with three. She is one of six Tulsa players to have double-digit hits and to have started at least 19 games this season. Five members of the Golden Hurricane have started all 20 games this season.
Tulsa has featured multiple pitchers this season, with Maura Moore leading the staff. One of the AAC Players to Watch, Moore holds a 6-5 record with a 3.71 ERA. Over 56.2 innings of work, she has struck out 38 and pitched four complete games. Brinly Maples has also made eleven appearances in the circle for the Golden Hurricane, recording Tulsa's only complete-game shutout of the season against Bowling Green.
