Smith Garners Second Consecutive Freshman of the Week Award

FORT WORTH, Texas – For the second time in four days, Tamya Smith has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon.
With only one regular season game on the tab, weekly honors were pushed up ahead of the AAC Tournament which begins Saturday, March 8. Against Florida Atlantic on March 4, Smith posted 21 points, marking the third consecutive game she scored a career high. The freshman also added five rebounds and a steal.
Across her last five games, Smith has averaged 14.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 27.8 minutes. Her streak of 14 consecutive free throws made came to an end on Tuesday night, but she is still shooting 24-for-26 (92.3%) at the charity stripe on the year.
The Tigers will be back in action this Sunday, March 9, opening their postseason with a second round matchup with East Carolina in the AAC Tournament.
