Three Tigers Named to AAC Postseason Teams
Mar 07, 2025 | Women's Basketball
IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference announced its postseason awards on Friday morning, and three Tigers were named across five different groups of honorees.
Tilly Boler was selected to the All-Conference First Team and the All-Newcomer Team, and Alasia Smith was named a member of the All-Defensive Team and All-Conference Second Team. Tamya Smith earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Boler, a fifth-year transfer from Jackson State, made her mark in a big way on the offensive end, ranking third in the conference with 17.0 points per game, the most since Ariel Hearn in the 2013-14 season. Her 10 games of 20 points or more was second in the conference, and she posted another five games with exactly 19 points. She shot 40.8% from three-point range in conference play and led the Tigers in scoring in 18 of 29 games. She's the first Memphis player since Hearn's 2013-14 campaign to make the All-Conference First Team.
Alasia Smith used a historic defensive season to garner a nod to the conference's first-ever All-Defensive Team. She ranked second in steals (2.3), third in blocks (1.3) and fourth in rebounds (8.9); she is on pace to be the first AAC player since Gabby Williams (UConn, 2016-17) to finish in the top five in steals and blocks. The fifth year forward leads the conference in games with four-plus steals (seven) and three-plus steals (12). A 2023 transfer from Gardner-Webb, Smith adds the accolades to her impressive trophy case which includes a Big South Defensive Player of the Year and All-Conference First Team Selection.
Tamya Smith used a red-hot ending to her freshman season to bring home the final two Freshman of the Week awards in the regular season. Across her last five games, Smith has averaged 14.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 27.8 minutes. Her streak of 14 consecutive free throws came to an end on March 4 against Florida Atlantic, but she is still shooting 24-for-26 (92.3%) at the charity stripe on the year. After logging 15 or more minutes just three times from November through January, she played eight such games in the final 10 of the regular season, including five consecutive games with over 25 minutes. She's the fifth Memphis player to be named to the AAC All-Freshman Team.
The full list of conference honorees can be found below. The Tigers will take on East Carolina in the second round of the AAC Tournament on Sunday, March 9, at 6:00 p.m. at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
