Tigers Pick Up Third Consecutive Win over Ole Miss in 3-2 Thriller
Aug 17, 2025 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's soccer led for 83 minutes on Sunday evening, leaving it close before securing a 3-2 victory over Ole Miss at the Track and Soccer Stadium.
Flavie Dube opened the scoring in the seventh minute, establishing a lead that the Tigers (2-0) would take into the break. Memphis would double their lead twice only to see the Rebels (0-1) score soon thereafter, but the hosts saw the game out for their third consecutive victory over Ole Miss.
"It reminded me of some of the old battles with Ole Miss; they showed a lot of fight," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "We had some really good chances that we need to finish to change the tone of the game. It's always nice to beat Ole Miss."
The Rebels opened the match with an intense high press, but it proved overzealous as Memphis perfectly executed a counterattack to strike first through Dube. Ai Kitagawa and Ellis Kelly were credited with assists, their second each in as many games.
The Tigers took ten shots and tested goalkeeper Sydney O'Billovich five times in the first half, but the score remained 1-0 as the teams went to the locker room. Right out of halftime, Kitagawa fired a goal into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0, but Ole Miss would punch back quickly with a goal from Brooklyn Marn off the left side.
Memphis' third goal came in the 73rd minute through Alex Mackay, who collected a loose ball in the box, turned and curled a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner. The hosts seemed destined to play out a victory, but the script changed when Mackay was called for a handball trying to clear the ball out of danger inside the box. Katie Ramsden converted the ensuing penalty with eight minutes to go, but that would be the final time Ole Miss touched the ball in Memphis' box.
The win marked the 50th at the Track and Soccer Stadium, which became the Tigers' home in 2019 and includes two games played in 2017. Their record at the facility is 50-2-5 (.921) and includes a home unbeaten streak which was extended to 29 games tonight.
Memphis inches the all-time series record to 12-13-3 in favor of Ole Miss, including six wins in the last nine years. They are now 12-6-1 against SEC competition since 2018.
The first road test is upon the Tigers as they travel to Kennesaw State on Thursday, August 21, at 6:00 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
