
Tigers Sweep Competition in Rumble at the Roane with Win over Tennessee State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (3-0) volleyball swept Tennessee State (0-3) on the final day of the Rumble at the Roane to remain the only school undefeated in the invitational. This marks the first time since 2021 that Memphis started the season with a 3-0 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening set, Memphis traded points early with Tennessee State before Janyah Henderson, Arianna Mongare and Za'Niya Boyles sparked a 4-0 run that gave the Tigers control of the frame. Memphis never trailed again, riding that momentum to a 25-15 set victory.
The energy carried into the second set as Henderson and Amanda Hardt fueled the attack, with Hardt recording multiple kills during a decisive mid-set surge that pushed the Tigers ahead for good. Memphis closed the match with a strong third set, continuing to dominate at the net and from the service line on the way to a 25-18 victory.
In the third set, Tennessee State kept it close early before Memphis pulled away with a 5-1 run sparked by Mongare and an ace from Abigail Schlueter. The Tigers controlled the rest of the frame behind strong defense from Boyles and steady setting from Maddy Bach. Henderson added late kills before Mongare sealed the sweep with her eighth kill of the match in a 25-18 win.
Statistically, the Tigers controlled every category, highlighted by a 42-19 advantage in kills and 42-18 in assists. Hardt led Memphis with 10 kills, while Mongare and Henderson each added eight kills to pace a balanced Memphis offense. Bach orchestrated the attack with consistency, while Schlueter's three service aces gave the Tigers a boost from the back row.
Maygan Miller-Garcia and Carsyn Stansberry lead TSU's offense with six kills in the match, followed by Sagia Reilly with three kills. Sydni Poston and Reilly were the only two players with double-figures with Poston had 11 digs and Reilly had 13 assists.

Memphis will head out west to participate in the Denver Classic from Sept. 4-6. During that weekend, the Tigers will play the host Denver Pioneers before playing in neutral-site matches against Idaho State and Texas Southern. Memphis' match against Denver is set for a 7:00 p.m. CT start and will be broadcast on Midco Sports.
