Jul 23, 2026 | Volleyball
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Memphis volleyball program was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award recipient for the 2025-26 academic year, the association announced Thursday. The Tigers were also recognized on the prestigious AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll.
"This recognition means so much because it reflects who our team is when no one is watching," head coach Cheri Lindsay said. "Our student-athletes have embraced the challenge of competing at a high level while holding themselves to an elite academic standard. Earning both the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award and being named to the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll is a direct result of their discipline, commitment and pride in representing the University of Memphis. I couldn't be prouder of this group."
Memphis has now earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for nine consecutive years, totaling 23 honors since 1999. Additionally, the Tigers secured a spot on the Team Academic Honor Roll for the fifth straight year. Memphis is just one of two programs to earned that award every year from 2022-26.
To qualify for the AVCA Team Academic Award, a program must maintain a collective team GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale during the academic school year. The Team Academic Honor Roll designates programs that finish in the top 20 percent of team GPAs within their respective playing division.
