No. 9 Tigers, Blazers Play to 1-1 Draw
Sep 18, 2025 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 9 Memphis women's soccer team fell behind for the first time all season, later equalizing through Alex Mackay to settle for a tie against UAB on Thursday night at the Track and Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers (7-0-2, 1-0-1 American) continue their 34-match unbeaten run at home, but there were ample opportunities to score the winner as they out-shot the Blazers, 16-3.
"Credit it to UAB; they came in with a gameplan and executed it well. We made a mess of the goal we conceded, but I was proud of the resiliency," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. We had some breakaways late that we should finish, but that's soccer. We'll have to learn from it and go again because we will continue to get teams' best effort."
Memphis started the game on the front foot, but despite winning four corners they could only find three shots which all went wide of the goal. Goalkeeper Abby Kudla was called into action to collect a dangerous ball and make one save, but the first half came and went with just four shots between both sides.
Right out of halftime, the Blazers (3-2-4) took advantage of a breach in the Tiger defense, driving a loose ball into the penalty area and converting through Ava Mills. The referees consulted the replay review for a potential foul, but no obvious error was found and the goal stood.
After allowing a goal for the first time in 367 minutes, it was the Tigers' turn to chase the game. Their hunger produced 13 shots in the half, but they couldn't find the leveler until the 72nd minute when the substitute Mackay lofted a shot from the left corner that ricocheted off the cross bar and into the net.
Memphis gushed bodies forward in search of a game-winner, and they created several potent chances, but Ashley Henderson's shot was saved by Leah Parsons, and Flavie Dube saw her shot hit the wrong side of the post and drift wide from six yards out.
American Conference play will halt again this weekend, and the ninth-ranked Tigers will be back at home next Thursday, September 25, to battle South Florida at 7:00 p.m.
