Volleyball Opens Conference Play at Tulane, Hosts Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis volleyball opens American Conference play on the road Friday at Tulane at 6:30 p.m. before returning home to host Wichita State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (8-5, 0-0 American) enters conference play following a sweep against Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday night. Zaniah Hoskins led the offense with a career-high 22 kills while a freshmen Riley McCloskey, Camryn McCollum and Brianna Washington each posted career highs in kills of their own. Sydney Marshall and Maddy Bach recorded a total of 37 assists.
SCOUTING THE GREEN WAVES AND SHOCKERS
Tulane (8-3, 0-0 American) comes into the weekend after going undefeated in the Pelican Invitational earning sweeps over New Orleans and Alabama State, with a four-set victory over Providence.
Zoe Rachow was named an American Conference weekly honorable mention after recording 115 assists on the weekend, highlighted with 44 against Providence. Avery Burks and Ava Derbes led the offense with 75 kills combined in the invitational.
Wichita State (8-4, 0-0 American) comes to Memphis after going to Vermillion, S.D. for the South Dakota for the South Dakota Classic. The Shockers defeated Drake and South Dakota in four-sets before falling to Villanova in five. Wichita State will open conference play at UAB on Friday before coming to Memphis.
Maddie Wilson was named as the American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after setting Wichita State's program record for most blocks in a four-set match with 11. Brooklyn Leggett and Sydney Dunning registered a combined 74 kills to lead the Shockers' offense in the South Dakota Classic.
THE SERIES AGAINST TULAND AND WICHITA STATE
Friday marks the 58th all-time meeting between Memphis and Tulane, with the Tigers holding a nine-match advantage in the series. The Green Wave claimed last season's contest in five sets, but Memphis won its most recent road matchup against Tulane.
Saturday will be the 15th meeting between Memphis and Wichita State. The Shockers have won the last seven matches dating back to 2020.
