Tigers, Roadrunners Set for Friday Afternoon Clash
Jan 22, 2026 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball will host UTSA on Friday, January 23, at 4 p.m. at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
The contest was moved up from Saturday due to the potential weather coming to the Memphis area over the weekend. ESPN+ will still broadcast the game.
The Tigers (7-12, 1-5 American) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak after falling at Wichita State on Tuesday night. Both Daejah Richmond (14.0) and Tamya Smith (13.5) rank in the top 15 in points per contest in conference play.
UTSA (9-8, 4-2 American) have lost two of their last three games after starting conference play 3-0. On Tuesday, they lost to East Carolina, 65-58, snapping a 13-game home winning streak in conference play that dated back to February 2024. Last season, they went 13-0 at home overall and won the regular season conference championship.
Memphis fell twice at the hands of the Roadrunners last season, a nail-biter at home in January and an 80-61 loss in San Antonio in February. They are 1-3 all-time against UTSA, with the one win coming in the Roadrunners' inaugural season in the American in 2023-24.
Head coach Karen Aston is in her fifth season in San Antonio and has over 350 wins as a head coach across stops at Texas, North Texas and Charlotte. Cheyenne Rowe is ninth in the conference in scoring (12.9) and third in rebounds (8.8).
The Tigers' best offense may come in the form of aggressive defense against the conference's top-ranked defense. They rank 30th in forcing turnovers while the Roadrunners are outside the top 300 in turnovers on the offensive end.
