Zych Moves Into Head Coaching Role, Names Henry as Assistant Coach

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis rifle has announced the addition of Aether Henry as an assistant coach ahead of Gabriela Zych's first season as the head coach of the program.
"We are so happy to bring back Aether on our staff," said Zych. "Aether has had an incredibly decorated shooting career at both the collegiate and international levels. Most importantly, as a former Memphis rifle student-athlete, Aether understands what it means to be a Tiger, including the work-ethic, pride and culture that make this program so special. We could not be more excited to welcome Aether back to Memphis this fall."
With Henry joining the staff, Memphis' 2026-27 roster will feature all three Tigers to have earned All-America honors with Zych and Henry on the coaching staff, and Emmet Bodrogi returning for their sophomore campaign.
"I was lucky and so proud to be on this team as an athlete, and to be a part of this school for as long as I have been such a gift and I am ecstatic to continue being a part of the Tiger family," Henry said. "Being able to coach these student-athletes to grow and challenge themselves has been a dream of mine for the past several years and I am so grateful for this opportunity."
Henry, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, finished their career as a six-time all-conference honoree between the Great American Rifle Conference, a three-time CRCA Scholastic All-American and a two-time air rifle All-American, once from the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association and once from the National Rifle Association.
At Memphis, Henry was a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier while also being named an alternate in their final season. During the 2022-23 season, Henry placed fourth in air rifle in the NCAA Championships, qualifying with a score of 596 and shooting a 595 in the final.
In their three seasons of competition as a Tiger, Henry led the team in smallbore, air rifle and aggregate during two seasons and finished second on the team in all three disciplines as a fifth year, also posting then program recorded in smallbore (591) and aggregate (1186) during the 2022-23 season.
Prior to joining the Tigers, Henry competed for their hometown school in TCU, helping the Horned Frogs to a 2019 NCAA Team National Championship while also finishing as the NCAA Air Rifle Individual Championship runner-up.
At the youth ranks, Henry was a two-time USA Shooting National Junior Champion, competing for the USA Shooting National Team with gold medals in the 2018 Meyton Cup in Austria and 2018 H&N Cup in Germany. They also competed internationally at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Brazil and trained as a Resident Athlete at the Olympic Training Center in 2019.
