Tipton Named Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention
Oct 06, 2026 | Football
TYLER, Texas – University of Memphis tight end Hunter Tipton was selected as an honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award's Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Tipton, a native of Timpson, Texas, has shined this season for the Tigers and put his name into the national conversation for the best tight end in all of college football. In last Saturday's matchup at Charlotte, Tipton added three catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns to his season total. His lone non-scoring reception saw him hurdle a Charlotte defensive back to get into the red zone, setting up an eventual touchdown catch by Stonka Burnside.
On the year, the redshirt senior leads all FBS tight ends in receiving touchdowns with five, while also ranking third among tight ends in receiving yards with 367. His 19.32 yards per reception is also the most of any tight end across the country this season.
Earlier this season, Tipton was named the John Mackey Award Player of the Week after recording 229 receiving yards against Boise State, five yards shy of tying the FBS record for single-game receiving yards by a tight end.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: played football at and graduated from a Texas High School and/or currently playing at a Texas Division I four-year institution.
