Memphis Comes Up Clutch Against Indiana, Sweeps Alcorn State in Doubleheader
Feb 15, 2026 | Men's Tennis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's tennis team claimed a big win in a close 4-3 match against Indiana and later swept Alcorn State 7-0 to claim its second win at Leftwich Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Tigers took the early doubles lead against Indiana after Obrad Markovski/Marko Milosavljevic won their sixth match of the season. Courts one and two proved more difficult as both of Indiana's ranked duos claimed victory by a 6-4 scoreline, securing the doubles point for Indiana.
Freshman Keoni Puig McCallan evened the score for Memphis with a decisive 6-3, 6-0 win on court five. However, the Hoosiers reclaimed the lead when Sam Landau defeated Maxime Dubouch 6-2, 6-2 on court one. The next court to finish was court six, where redshirt freshman Sean O Nuallain fought off several set points in a second-set tiebreaker to ultimately pull through 6-4, 7-6 (6), tying the score once again. The Tigers momentarily took the lead when another freshman, Marcos Castro Fabra, improved his season record to 7-0 with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win at line two. However, Obrad Markovski fell in two narrow sets, 6-7 (4), 5-7, to tie the score at 3-3.
All eyes turned to court four in a matchup between Indiana's Michael Andre and Swiss graduate student Leandro Zgraggen. Andre took the first set 6-4 and had several match points in the second set but Zgraggen didn't back down. He fought off match points, broke Andre's serve and won the set 7-5 to force a winner-take-all third set. Zgraggen turned up the heat with precise shot-making, which proved too much for Andre, as Zgraggen took the set 6-2 and clinched the match for the Tigers.
The second match of the day began around an hour later and saw Memphis take on Alcorn State. In doubles, two new Tiger duos earned wins with Lasse Rensing/Sam Reeve winning 6-0 on court two and Sean O Nuallain/Luis Carvalho winning 6-1 on court three.
The Tigers had dominant displays at every line of singles play as the most games any Tiger lost in a match was five. Lasse Rensing picked up his first singles win of the season with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win on court six. Maxime Dubouch bounced back with a 6-0, 6-1 win at line one. Marko Milosavljevic clinched the match for the Tigers with his 6-2, 6-0 win on court three. The remaining matches were played out and saw Sam Reeve, Keoni Puig McCallan and Luis Carvalho post wins.
Memphis improves its record to 7-3 and will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 20, at Arkansas. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
