MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball is back home on Wednesday evening, hosting East Carolina on February 25 at 7 p.m. at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
The Tigers (8-19, 2-12 American) dropped a heartbreaker on Sunday afternoon at Temple by a score of 65-62 and are looking to snap their seven-game losing streak. It is a rematch of Memphis' second conference game of the season, which the Pirates won late, 74-65. The Pirates lead the all-time series, 25-22.
East Carolina (20-8, 12-3 American) is coming off one of the games of the year in the American Conference, a 60-58 home loss to league leaders Rice. The Pirates pushed the undefeated Owls to the brink but fell to a three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak and was their first since January 27.
Kim McNeill is in her seventh season at the helm in Greenville and has locked in a fourth consecutive winning season. The Pirates rank 18th in the country in free throws made per game, shooting 73.3% on 21.1 attempts per game. Anzhane Hutton leads the team in that department, averaging nearly four attempts per game helping her to 11.2 points per contest.
Lead guard Kennedy Fauntleroy has made her case for both Player and Defender of the Year in the conference this season. Her and Memphis' Richmond are two of three players averaging over 2.7 steals per game, with the former adding 13.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds to the 20-8 Pirates.
