Memphis Hosts League-Leading Rice
Feb 06, 2026 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball will take on the American Conference league leaders on Saturday afternoon at Elma Roane Fieldhouse, a tilt with Rice set for 1 p.m.
In celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Memphis Athletics is hosting a youth clinic on the court following the game, hosted by women's basketball, women's soccer and volleyball. Registration for the clinic can be found HERE.
Just the Tigers' (8-13, 2-6 American) third game in 16 days, it's the first of seven games in an 19-day stretch. Memphis defeated UTSA, 52-40, at home on January 23 before falling in double overtime at Tulsa on January 31.
Saturday's game will be perhaps the Tigers' biggest test of the conference season against a team that is currently 19-3 and 9-0 in conference play. Dating back to November 28, their win streak is currently 14 and is the fourth-highest active streak in the nation, behind UConn, UCLA and North Dakota State.
Rice has put themselves in the driver's seat of the conference regular season title, and they have done so by being a well-drilled team with few mistakes or flaws. They rank in the top 50 nationally in fewest turnovers, free throw percentage, fewest fouls, opponent two-point percentage and three-pointers allowed. The Owls allow just 3.5 three-pointers per game, the lowest mark in the country, yet they also allow opponents to shoot just 40.2% inside the arc, which is 22nd nationally.
The offensive distribution has been split between Dominique Ennis, Shelby Hayes and Victoria Flores who each average a few ticks over 12 points per contest. Hailey Adams leads the conference with 1.9 blocks per game and is second in rebounds (11.1).
Memphis lost last season against Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse, 70-59, in the fourth conference game of the year. The loss snapped a five-game win streak which dated back to the 2011 CUSA quarterfinals. The Tigers hold the all-time series advantage, 9-5.
The Owls are led by Lindsay Edmonds in her fifth year in charge in Houston. They have reached the conference tournament final each of the past two seasons, winning it in 2024 and falling to South Florida last season.
