Tigers Capture Seven Victories in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Memphis track and field team dominated the weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex, capturing seven event titles and securing several national rankings across the UAB Green and Gold Invitational and UAB Invite.
The Tigers capitalized on the back-to-back, one-day meets to secure 36 top-five finishes and a remarkable 20 personal-bests. A full list of the seven wins, top-five finishes and PRs can be found below. Comprehensive meet results can be found in the link above.
The Tigers' weekend was highlighted by dominant performances in the field and distance events. Poorna Raorane delivered a standout weekend in the shot put, consistently climbing the national leaderboards. On Friday, she claimed victory with a toss of 15.16 meters, a mark that ranked 69th in NCAA Division I. She topped that performance on Saturday with a second-place finish, improving her mark to 15.28 meters and jumping to 65th in the national rankings. Jazmyn James also secured a top spot for the Tigers on Saturday, winning the shot put with a career-best throw of 16.04 meters, the 37th-best mark in the nation.
Oageng Mdlela's 15.41 meters in the triple jump secured a first-place victory and a 51st placement in NCAA Division I on Friday. The next day, Mdlela recorded a third-place finish in the long jump at 6.92 meters.
Memphis ended Friday evening with a victory in the men's 4x400-meter relay. The team of Jacari Simpson, Bryson Wilson, Kouto Anyika and Courtland Noble clocked a winning time of 3:13.73.
On the track Saturday, Ann-Marie Braese and Robert Randall won their respective 5,000-meter races. Braese finished in 17:51.98, while Randall set a new personal best at 14:45.60. Kenny Guy followed Randall in the men's race, taking second place at 15:12.51.
Tigers are back on the track next week in Nashville, Tennessee at the Music City Challenge on Friday, February 13th, and Saturday, February 14th.
