Memphis Edges Florida Atlantic, 4-3, in Road Thriller

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Memphis men's tennis team picked up a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday afternoon at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.
The Tigers battled throughout the afternoon, overcoming a doubles-point deficit and winning four singles matches to secure the road win.
Memphis dropped the doubles point despite a tightly contested effort on court two. Florida Atlantic claimed wins on courts one and three, taking an early 1-0 lead into singles play. The pairing of Sam Reeve/Lasse Rensing was locked in a 6-6 match that went unfinished, but the Owls' victories at the top and bottom courts proved decisive.
In singles, Memphis responded in dominant fashion. Keoni Puig McCallan evened the match quickly with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 win on court six, while Obrad Markovski followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on court three.
Florida Atlantic answered with a straight-set win on court two and a three-set win on court five, but Memphis tied the score at 3-3 as Maxime Dubouch battled to a three-set victory on court one, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
With the match hanging in the balance, Leandro Zgraggen delivered the clinching point on court four. After dropping the second set, Zgraggen rallied to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 and secure the 4-3 victory for Memphis.
Memphis improves to 8-10 and will return home to Memphis with momentum for a doubleheader against Tennessee Tech and Tulane. First serve against Tennessee Tech is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, March 27 at Leftwich Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free.
