Williams Homers in 5-2 Loss to South Florida

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis (7-16, 0-3 American) softball team went winless in the first weekend of conference play after falling by a score of 5-2 to South Florida (20-8, 3-0 American), Sunday afternoon.
After Memphis took an early 2-1 lead, the Bulls scored four unanswered runs, including a three-run third inning, to complete a sweep of the Tigers.

Memphis stays at home for a midweek nonconference matchup against North Alabama on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before traveling to UTSA for a weekend American series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- South Florida opened up the scoring with an RBI single off the bat of Olivia Elliott.
- Elliott was caught stealing by Aubrey Williams to end the inning.
- The Tigers responded in the bottom half of the first on an RBI double by Mya Clark that scored Faith Brown.
- Brown reached on a two-out single.
- Jericho Tate worked through runners on first and second in the second inning, inducing a lineout to strand the runners.
- Memphis gained a lead in the inning on a solo home run by Aubrey Williams.
- The home run chased South Florida starter, Belle Sardja, out of the game.
- After Kathy Garcia-Soto reached to lead off the inning, the Bulls scored three runs in the third, all with two outs.
- Alex Wilkes homered to center field to bring two runs home.
- After a double and pitching change, DaNia Brooks singled up the middle to give South Florida a 4-2 lead.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Memphis left two runners stranded in scoring position after a Deana Cunningham groundout.
- South Florida added a fifth run on a wild pitch with a defensive error by Memphis, allowing a runner to come in.
- The Tigers left runners on first and second with a flyout and strikeout to end the inning.
- After holding South Florida scoreless in the seventh, Paris Brienesse and Ariel Davis singled to put two runners on base before Faith Brown lined out on a leaping catch by South Florida's DaNia Brooks to end the game.
- In the circle, Mya Clark and Avery Stutts tossed 2.1 and 2.0 innings without allowing an earned run.
