Memphis Drops 13-Inning Battle to Florida Atlantic

Florida Atlantic struck early and maintained control throughout, while Memphis was unable to fully recover despite multiple scoring opportunities.
The Owls plated two runs in the first inning and added another in the third before Memphis responded in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers continued to chip away, but Florida Atlantic answered with a key insurance run in the sixth before Tyler Harrington tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.
The two teams then went quiet offensively, pushing the game to extra innings where Florida Atlantic scored two runs in the top of the 13th to claim the series win.
Memphis finished with four runs on eight hits, while Florida Atlantic totaled six runs on 11 hits.
On the mound, Seth Impson (1-2) took the loss for Memphis, while Tyler Murphy (1-3) earned the win in relief for Florida Atlantic.
Memphis will look to salvage a win on Sunday morning against Florida Atlantic. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Florida Atlantic opened the scoring in the first inning, capitalizing on a sacrifice fly and RBI double to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Owls added a solo home run in the third to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Memphis answered in the bottom of the third as Jack Little doubled and Marcus Smith drove him in with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- Florida Atlantic pushed the lead to 4-1 with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
- The Tigers responded in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring three runs. Javon Hernandez delivered an RBI single before Tyler Harrington drove in two with a double to make it 4-4.
- Florida Atlantic regained the lead in the 13th inning with a two-run double, going ahead 6-4.
- Memphis threatened late after a leadoff double by Hernandez in the bottom of the 13th but was unable to complete the comeback.

- Freddy Rodriguez, Javon Hernandez and Jack Little stole bases for the Tigers, bringing the team's season total to 78 steals, which ranks in the top 30 nationally.
- Rodriguez is 27-for-30 on stolen base attempts this season which leads the American Conference and ranks third in the nation.
- Hernandez improved his perfect record to 16-for-16, second most on the team behind Rodriguez.
- Little has also not been caught stealing, posting a perfect 5-for-5 record.
- Starting pitcher David Case provided an excellent start for the Tigers.
- Case pitched 6.0 innings for the third straight time while allowing two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
- Recorded his third straight quality start (6.0+ IP, less than three earned runs allowed).
- With six strikeouts today, Case has now punched out 42 batters, most of any Tiger.
- Shortstop Javon Hernandez moved up to second in the batting order and went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a walk.
- His double was his seventh of the season.
- Recorded his sixth multi-hit game thus far.
- First baseman Tyler Harrington continued his steady offensive output this series.
- Harrington went 2-for-4 with a clutch 2-RBI double in the sixth inning to tie the game.
- In the series, Harrington is 3-for-6 with four RBI.
- Left fielder Jack Little was the third Tiger to collect multiple hits against the Owls.
- He finished 2-for-5, recorded his 15th hit of the season and logged his fifth multi-hit game.
