Memphis Men’s Golf Sits Second After Opening Round of NCAA Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Memphis men's golf team put together a strong opening round Monday, finishing the first day of the NCAA Division I Columbus Regional in second place at the OSU Golf Club – Scarlet Course.

The Tigers shot a 5-over-par 289 to trail only No. 2 Florida, which surged into the tournament lead with a 7-under-par 279. Memphis holds a slim one-stroke lead over No. 14 Stanford and No. 25 Florida State, who are tied for third at 6-over par (290), while Illinois State rounds out the top five at 9-over-par 293.

Cian O'Connor and Christian Morneau paced Memphis on day one, carding even-par 71s to finish the opening round tied for third place individually. Diego Lourenco sits at 2-over-par 73 to put him in a tie for 20th, while Yixiang Wang is just one stroke back at 3-over-par 74. Tobey Kim completed the Memphis lineup, shooting a 6-over-par 77 to sit tied for 61st.

The Tigers return to the Scarlet Course on Tuesday, May 19, for the second round of the Columbus Regional starting at 7:30 a.m. EST/ 6:30 a.m. CT. Fans can watch live coverage on Babygrande Golf and follow hole-by-hole updates via the Live Leaderboard.
