Memphis Drops Regular Season Finale Against Shockers

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis softball team came back from a three-run deficit before eventually falling 10-5 to Wichita State to close out the regular season.
Memphis (18-38, 6-21 American) stormed back to tie the game at 5-5 by the midway point of the fifth inning, but Wichita State (35-16, 21-6 American) proceeded to score five unanswered runs to close the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis will be the 10th seed in the American Conference Championships next week at Max R. Joyner Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina. The Tigers will face the seventh seed, with official seeding determined after conclusion of the final weekend of American Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Memphis scored immediately to kick off the series finale on an RBI double by Faith Brown.
- Ariel Davis scored on the play after recording a leadoff double.
- Wichita State tied it in the bottom half on a solo home run.
- A two-run home run in the bottom of the second gave the Shockers their first lead of the contest.
- The Shockers tacked one on with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.
- After Memphis' third double of the game, this time by Neely Taylor, Deana Cunningham singled up the middle to plate the Tigers' second run of the game.
- Wichita State answered with an RBI single just out of the reach of Cunningham in shallow left field.
- The Tigers stormed back to tie the game in the top half of the fifth inning.
- After a leadoff single by Jasmine Mack ended up with her at third after a sacrifice and a wild pitch, Ariel Davis laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a two-base error to bring Mack home.
- Faith Brown singled up the middle to bring Davis and Brienesse, who singled following Davis' sacrifice, around to score.
- Wichita State broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning on a two-RBI single after two base hits to begin the frame.
- The Shockers put the game out of reach with three more on an RBI single and a wild pitch with a throwing error.
- Memphis' now 390 hits are good for fifth-most in single-season history.
- The Tigers finish the regular season with 245 runs scored, currently the fifth-most in program history.
- With four more today, Memphis' season total of 65 doubles is two shy of last season's total and good for fourth-most in program history.
- The Tigers' 216 RBI are currently the third-most in a season and three shy of the second-place mark, set in 2007.
- Memphis has matched its sacrifice hit total from the previous season with 52, tied for the fourth-most in single-season history.
- With Brienesse's 16th today, Memphis is one stolen base away from matching its total from 2025, and this season's total is the sixth-most in a season.

- The double makes Brown the third Tiger this season with at least 10 doubles.
