Tigers Open NCAA Championships Play Friday at Omni La Costa

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The University of Memphis men's golf team is heading to Carlsbad, California, for the NCAA Championships, beginning Friday, May 29, and concluding Wednesday, June 3.
Memphis will tee off for the opening round at 8:20 a.m. PST/ 10:20 a.m. CST on the North Course on Friday.
The University of Texas will host the six-day event at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. Live coverage will broadcast on Babygrande, with The Golf Channel picking up live coverage of the final three rounds starting Monday. Memphis is one of just three unranked schools in the field, joining Chattanooga and San Diego. The Tigers are also one of only five programs competing that do not belong to a Power Four conference, alongside Chattanooga, Pepperdine, Arkansas State and San Diego.
This marks the eighth NCAA Championship appearance in program history for the Tigers, and their first since 2012. The program's best national finish came in 1955, when Memphis placed eighth out of 33 teams in Knoxville, Tennessee. This trip marks only the second time Memphis has advanced to the finals since the NCAA implemented the regional format ahead of the 1988–89 season.
The tournament field features 30 institutions playing 54 holes of stroke play over the first three days. The field will then be cut to the top 15 teams for a final round of stroke play on Monday, June 1, which will also determine the individual national champion. From there, the top eight teams advance to a match-play bracket to decide the team national champion on Wednesday, June 3.
Fans traveling to California can purchase an all-session, six-day pass for $48, or single-day passes for $10. All tickets are mobile and can be purchased through the ticket link HERE.
Memphis looks to build on immense single-season momentum after capturing two team titles this year: the Memphis Intercollegiate and the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational.
Junior Diego Lourenco made program history by becoming the first Tiger to win the individual title at the American Conference Championship, finishing at 14-under-par. The Orleans, France native, also captured the Colleton River Collegiate crown in March at 10-under-par.
Lourenco is not the only Tiger with a victory this season. Junior Yixiang Wang won the Steelwood Collegiate during the fall schedule to secure his first career collegiate victory at 7-under-par.
Sophomore Christian Morneau has also built significant momentum over the past few weeks, most recently tying for second place at the NCAA Columbus Regional with a 1-over-par 214. The Windsor, Ontario native, previously put together a strong performance at the American Conference Championships, tying for 14th place at 4-under-par 212.
