Tigers Open Conference Play on the Road Against Wichita State and Tulsa

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team opens American Conference action on the road this weekend, traveling to face Wichita State on Friday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. before heading to Tulsa on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (5-6) enters conference play on a three-match winning streak following a victory over Ole Miss and back-to-back sweeps against Southern Miss and Little Rock. The win over Ole Miss marked the program's first home victory against the Rebels since 2005, while the consecutive sweeps were the Tigers' first since 2024.

Senior Caitlyn Little was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Week after recording 56 kills and averaging 5.60 kills per set last week—ranking sixth in NCAA Division I for the week. Little leads the conference and ranks 32nd nationally with 4.07 kills per set.

Junior Sydney Marshall earned conference honorable mention recognition after dishing out 109 assists, or 10.90 per set. The Lake Mary, Florida, native ranks fourth in the American, averaging 8.85 assists per set.
Additionally, senior Abigail Schlueter etched her name in the school record book on Saturday, moving into the top 10 all-time in career digs in Memphis history.

SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS & GOLDEN HURRICANE
Wichita State (3-9) enters conference play on a five-match losing streak dating back to Sept. 12 against Arkansas State. The Shockers' last victory came against Florida Gulf Coast in Columbia, Missouri.

McKenzie Jones leads the Wichita State attack with 107 total kills at 2.74 kills per set, while Jenna Cubbage led the team last week with 27 kills at 2.70 kills per set. Defensively, Maddie Wilson anchors the net with 42 total blocks at 1.02 blocks per set, which is eighth in the American, and Gab Maas leads the back row with 3.29 digs per set, which is sixth in the conference.

Tulsa (8-3) comes into the weekend following three straight losses against No. 22 Kansas, LSU and Miami. The Golden Hurricane host South Florida on Friday before welcoming Memphis on Sunday.

Jill Hanson leads Tulsa offensively with 105 kills at 2.39 kills per set while hitting .320, which ranks 10th in the conference. Hanson also anchors Tulsa's net defense, averaging 1.05 blocks per set with 46 total blocks. Setter Brittany Bacorn ranks seventh in the American with 8.41 assists per set and 370 total.

THE SERIES BETWEEN THE SHOCKERS & GOLDEN HURRICANE
Friday marks the 18th meeting between Memphis and Wichita State, with the Shockers holding a 13-4 series advantage and winning the last nine matchups.

Sunday will be the 42nd all-time meeting between Memphis and Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane have won the last six meetings.
