Sep 04, 2026 | Volleyball
LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Memphis volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Southeastern Louisiana on Friday afternoon inside Earl K. Long Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening frame, both teams traded points before Memphis built a 10-5 advantage on a 5-0 run highlighted by kills from Arianna Mongare and Caitlyn Little. The Lions answered with a 3-0 spurt of their own behind kills from Gracie Mann and Ainsley Driska. Late kills from Kyra McKelvey pulled Southeastern within two before Ashley Richardson and Keira Beverly capitalized on late Tiger attacking errors to secure the opening set for the Lions, 28-26.
Southeastern carried that momentum into the second set. Tied early, Abigail Bailey sparked a 6-0 run to put the Lions ahead 10-5. Despite kills from Mongare and Amanda Hardt, Southeastern closed the set on an 8-0 run to take a 25-12 victory.
Memphis responded in the third set, racing out to a 10-4 lead behind kills from Hardt and Kaylee Parker. Little extended the advantage with a kill that ignited a 3-0 run. Late Southeastern pushes were not enough, as Lily Hamilton closed out the 25-19 set victory with consecutive kills to put the Tigers on the board.
The fourth set featured tight back-and-forth action. Trailing late, Memphis capitalized on a Southeastern service error to fuel a 5-0 run, knotting the set at 21-21. However, the Lions took advantage of late Memphis errors down the stretch to claim the frame, 25-23, and seal the match.
