AchiuwaĀ turned in a remarkable freshman season. He became the first player in the seven-year history of the American Athletic Conference to earn both Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season. . . . Became the first Memphis freshman to win a conference player of the year award since Keith Lee during the 1981-82 season. Lee was the last Tigers' freshman to sweep both POY and FOY in the same season. . .Ā Became the first TIger to be named a conference player of the year since Joe Jackson (2012-13) when Memphis played in Conference USA. . . . Achiuwa averaged a double-double of 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds and finished the season with 18 double-doubles, . . . The 18 double-doubles tied Dedric Lawson (2016-17) for the seventh-most in a single season. . . . Was the only freshman among the top 10 conferences (ACC, AAC, A-10, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Mountain West, Pac-12, SEC and WCC) to average a double-double. . . . Was one of 16 players in the nation to average a double-double. . . . Finished with 334 rebounds to rank second for most rebounds by a Memphis freshman, 11 shy of the record set by Lorenzen Wright (1994-95). . . . Was the only player in the AAC to rank in the top five in the following four categories: Rebounding (1st), Blocked Shots (3rd), Scoring (5th) and FG Percentage (5th). . . . Scored a career-high 25 points in a Nov. 23 win over Ole Miss and matched it in the March 8 season-finale at Houston. . . . Blocked a season-best five shots in a game on three occasions (vs. Bradley Dec. 3; at UCF Jan 12 and at Tulane Feb. 29). . . . Was named the league's Player of the Week Nov. 25. . . . Was named to the Sporting News Mid-Season All-America Team (third team) and was a finalist for the Julius Erving Award.

Ranked as the nation's No. 9 prospect overall by 247Sports. . . . Played in the McDonald's All-American Game in Atlanta and led the East team with 22 points and 9 rebounds in 17 minutes. Made 10 of 20 shots and grabbed 5 offensive boards in the East's 115-100 win. Current Tigers teammate James Wiseman played for the West in the game. . . . Scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds playing for Team World in the Nike Hoops Summit in mid-April at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore. . . .Attended Montverde (Fla) Academy near Orlando during his senior season after starting his high school career at St. Benedict's Prep in New Jersey. . . . Was a teammate of current Tiger Lester Quinones at St. Benedict.'s Prep. . . . Led St. Benedict's Prep to mutliple key victories. In January 2018, he paced a win over the Newark, New Jersey area's top-ranked team, Hudson Catholic. HeĀ scored 19 points and added 10 rebounds. . . . Also helped lead the St. Benedict's to the Prep A Tournament Championship in 2018. . . . He and Quinones have played on various teams together since junior high, including as members of the New York-based New Heights AAU program.
