Blake Tims

Blake Tims joined the Memphis Athletic Department in November 2022 as the Director of Mental Health and Sports Performance. In August 2023, he moved into his current role as Assistant Athletic Director of Mental Health and Sports Performance.Â
Prior to his time at Memphis, Tims worked as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) at Southeast Psych Nashville from 2019-22, where he developed a clinical focus in working with athletes at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.Â
After completing his master's degree in marriage and family counseling from the University of Mobile in 2017, Tims began work as a Crisis Response Counselor at Youth Villages. He also has experience working with addication, anxiety, depression, ADHD and autism spectrum disorder.Â
He is currently a member of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).Â
Tims earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services from the University of South Alabama in 2014 and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Mobile in 2017. Additionally, he earned a master's degree in theological studies from Vanderbilt University in 2020. Tims is currently studying to earn a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy and Systemic Studies from the University of Louisiana Monroe, with an expected graduation year of 2026 after completing his dissertation, "Exploring the Influence of Religious Faith on the Psychological Well-Being of Division I College Student-Athletes".Â
He also holds a Graduate Certificate from the University of Memphis in Autism Studies and has a Continuing Education Certificate of Completion in Advanced Sports Psychology from the United States Sports Academy.Â
Tims, a native of Pell City Alabama, resides in Memphis and enjoys playing basketball, traveling to sporting events, fishing and spending time with his two sons, Dustin and Garvin.Â
