DALLAS, TEXAS - The University of Memphis Tiger volleyball team defeated the TCU Lady Frogs, 3-1, here Friday evening to improve to 12-2 overall, 3-2 in C-USA action.
Memphis won the first two games by scores of 30-26 and 30-20, but dropped the third game, 30-25. The Tigers finished the match in the fourth game, defeating TCU, 30-28, behind the hitting of sophomore Shella Neba who led Memphis with 17 kills and a .371 hitting mark.
"I was very proud of the way we played tonight," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "It was a huge road win for us and will give us some confidence heading into the Houston match Saturday evening. I am pleased with how well Shella played and how consistent she has been in the last few matches. She has been very productive for us and has helped this offense tremendously."
Three senior Tigers also recorded double digits kills as Adrianne Edmonds and Emily Eichmann both totaled 16 kills and Ginger Garrett posted 12 kills. Senior Amie Hamilton, who is averaging more than 12 assists per game this season, tallied a match-high 54 assists. Edmonds and Hamilton also led the defense with 16 digs and 15 digs, respectively.
The Tigers will face C-USA foe Houston at 7 p.m. Saturday evening on the road. Houston defeated Memphis, 3-2, nearly two weeks ago at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Memphis will return home after facing Houston and will host their next seven straight matches, beginning with an Oct. 12 meeting with Southern Miss.
