Men's Tennis Picks Up 4-2 Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- - The University of Memphis men's tennis team (7-6, 2-1 Conference USA) picked up a 4-2 win in their first match at home since January in non-conference action, Friday.
The Tigers won two of the three doubles match to earn the first point of the match. The No. 1 doubles team of Ben Stapp and Lee Taylor Walker survived a battle to win 9-8, while the No. 2 team of Joe Schmulian and Alex Bucewicz won 8-3 to decide the doubles point.
Troy State bounced back with a win at Nos. 1 and 3, but Memphis went on to win the No. 2, 4 and 6 matches to decide the outcome. The No. 5 singles match was stopped due to darkness.
The Tigers will remain at home for two more home matches this weekend, beginning with a 2 p.m. match against Georgia State, Saturday. Georgia State is trying to re-establish itself back in the top 75 poll. The Panthers fell out of the last poll released, Wednesday, after being ranked No. 62 in the country the week prior. Georgia State has made five appearances in the NCAA tournament and has won three conference championships. Georgia State is 9-6 overall and is 4-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
