Paced by Brad Benjamin's second round 71, the third lowest score of the day, the University of Memphis men's golf team climbed three spots in the standings to land in 12th after two rounds of play at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 302 at the par-72, 7,239-yard Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course. With a two day total of 618, the Tigers are eight strokes behind 11th place New Mexico State. Mississippi State leads the event with a two-day total of 589, eight shots ahead of Illinois State.
Benjamin's score of 71 in round two ties his second lowest total of the season, topped only by the 69 he fired in the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship in September. He is currently tied for ninth.
Brandon Bunn improved two strokes from yesterday, carding a 76 for a two-day total of 154, good for 41st. Jack Belote turned in a second round 79, leaving him in a tie for 50th. With two-round totals of 159 (83-76) and 165 (82-83), Jordan Payne and Stefan Erdidi are in 64th and 82nd, respectively.
In the field of 92 players, Joe Emerich of ISU is the only player under par after two days. He fired a 4-under-par 68 in the second round for a 2-under-par total of 142. Three players -- Xavier's Sebastian MacLean, and Josh Bevell and Noah Goldman of MSU -- are three shots behind in the individual standings.
The Tigers wrap up the Mobile Bay tomorrow, March 24th, with the playing of the third and final round.
