SETTING THE SCENE

Memphis (17-3, 6-0 C-USA) returns home to FedExForum Saturday, Feb. 2 to host Tulsa (12-9, 4-3 C-USA) in a Conference USA match-up. The game, slated for a CBS Sports Network telecast, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (CT) start.
The Tigers appeared in the Also Receiving Votes category of this week's Associated Press poll (tied at No. 36). Memphis did not appear in this week's ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
The Tigers bounced back after their Dec. 15 setback to No. 6/6 Louisville with 11-consecutive wins over Lipscomb 62-56 Dec. 20, Oral Roberts 72-57 Dec. 28, Loyola, Md., 78-64 Dec. 30, Tennessee 85-80 Jan. 4, East Carolina 67-54 Jan. 9, UAB 69-53 Jan. 12, Rice 77-51 Jan. 16, Harvard 60-50 Jan. 19, Tulane 71-60 Jan. 22, Marshall 73-72 Jan. 26 and East Carolina 75-68 Jan. 30.
Prior to the Dec. 15 loss, Memphis had won four straight with victories over Northern Iowa 52-47 Nov. 24, UT Martin 93-65 Nov. 29, Ohio 84-58 Dec. 5 and Austin Peay 83-65 Dec. 8.
Tulsa is 3-2 in its last five outings, including a 15-point road victory at Houston Jan. 23.
The Golden Hurricane are 4-5 in road games this year.
Tulsa returns only one starter and four letterwinners from last year's 17-14 squad.

WHAT'S UP NEXT

The Tigers take to the road Wednesday, Feb. 6 when they travel to Dallas, Texas, to face C-USA foe SMU. Game time is 7 p.m. (CT). The contest is not televised, but can be viewed on the Memphis Tiger Network via All-Access on www.gotigersgo.com.
The Golden Hurricane return back to Tulsa, Okla., to host UAB in a Conference USA encounter Feb. 6. Game time is 7 p.m. (CT).

WHAT THE GOLDEN HURRICANE DID A YEAR AGO

Tulsa posted a 17-14 overall record and a 10-6 Conference USA mark.
The Golden Hurricane finished in third place in the C-USA regular-season standings.
Tulsa earned an opening-round bye in the Conference USA Tournament. The Golden Hurricane then dropped a thrilling 105-100 triple overtime decision to Marshall in the C-USA Tournament quarterfinal round.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE

Tulsa brings a 12-9 overall record and a 4-3 C-USA mark into Saturday's league encounter.
The Golden Hurricane are 3-2 in their last five outings with wins over Rice, UTEP and Houston.
Tulsa is 4-5 in road games this season with victories at San Diego, Oral Roberts, SMU and Houston.
The tandem of James Woodard (13.2 ppg) and Pat Swilling Jr. (10.4 ppg) are the Golden Hurricane's top-two scorers. Rashad Smith is averaging 14.5 points, but has missed the last 17 games with a leg injury.
Woodard (5.9 rpg), D'Andre Wright (5.1 rpg) and Kauri Black (5.0 rpg) all average five or more boards per game. Woodard is ranked 17th in rebounding in C-USA.
Shaquille Harrison is Tulsa's top playmaker with 48 total assists (2.3 apg).
Swilling has the team's top percentage from the arc (42.2 percent), while Scottie Haralson leads the Golden Hurricane with 126 three-point attempts.
Tulsa is shooting 44 percent from the floor, 32.7 percent from the three-point line and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.
The Golden Hurricane are out-rebounding their opponents by an average margin of +2.6 boards per game (36.1-33.5).
Tulsa turns the ball over 15.8 times per game, the fourth-most in C-USA. The Golden Hurricane is 10th in turnover margin (-1.8) in C-USA.

MEMPHIS REPRESENTIN'

The city of Memphis will be well represented in Saturday's Conference USA encounter between the Tigers and Golden Hurricane.
The squads combine to have eight players from Memphis area on the two rosters.
Tulsa has one player -- Tim Peete (Central High School) -- that calls Memphis home.
On the Tigers' side, seven players hail from the Memphis area. Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Trey Draper, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson and Adonis Thomas all are from the Bluff City. Freshman Anthony Coleis from Arlington, a suburb of Memphis.

IT'S AN NCAA RING THING

Both head coaches in Saturday's Memphis-Tulsa match-up have NCAA title rings.
Memphis head coach Josh Pastner won his NCAA title as a player on the 1996-97 Arizona squad.
Tulsa head coach Danny Manning won two NCAA crowns as a player and assistant coach at Kansas. Manning led the Jayhawks to the 1988 national title as a player and then helped guide Kansas to the 2008 NCAA championship as an assistant on Bill Self's staff. The Jayhawks defeated Memphis for the 2008 NCAA title.

DO YOU REMEMBER?

After they took over the No. 1 spot in both national polls in 2007-08, the Tigers' first foe was Tulsa on Jan. 23, 2008.
Memphis moved to the top position in both national polls on Jan. 21, 2008, and then two days later, met the Golden Hurricane in the Reynolds Center. Memphis won that encounter 56-41.

HIDE YOUR EYES!

Saturday's contest may not be a pretty sight in terms of shooting from long distance.
Memphis and Tulsa both are in the bottom half of Conference USA in three-point shooting percentage.
The Tigers are seventh in Conference USA in three-point shooting percentage (34.5), while the Golden Hurricane are ninth (32.7).

PROTECT THE BALL!

Saturday's outcome may come down to which team protects the ball better.
Memphis and Tulsa both rank in the top-five in Conference USA in turnovers per game.
The Tigers average 15.1 miscues per contest (fifth-most in C-USA), while the Golden Hurricane turn the ball over 15.8 times a game (fourth-most in C-USA).

Memphis brings an 11-game win streak into Saturday's Conference USA encounter versus Tulsa.
The 11-game win streak is tied for the 11th-longest in school history.

NO SCHEDULING LOVE FROM C-USA;
TIGERS PLAY THREE OF NEXT FOUR ON THE ROAD

The talk every year is that league offices feed the teams into a computer, and it spits out the schedules.
Well, that Conference USA scheduling computer has no love for the Tigers over this two-week stretch (four games) that began Jan. 30.
Memphis is the only team in C-USA to play three of its next four league contests on the road. The Tigers played at East Carolina Jan. 30 (75-68 Tigers win) and has road games at SMU Feb. 6 and Southern Miss Feb. 9.
Memphis' lone home contest in this four-game stretch is Saturday, Feb. 2 versus Tulsa.

JANUARY, PLEASE DON'T GO...

While Memphis has had success in December since 1999-2000 (68-29 record), January has proven to be a better month for the Tigers.
Since 1999-2000, the Tigers have an impressive 93-21 record (.816 winning percentage) in the month of January.
Memphis has won 61 of its last 68 January games (.897 winning percentage).
This season, the Tigers went undefeated in the month of January with an 8-0 record. It is the fourth time in the last seven years Memphis posted a perfect January record.

FEBRUARY ALSO FRIENDLY FOR TIGERS

The Tigers have enjoyed tremendous success in the month of January (93-21 record; .816 winning percentage) since 1999-2000, but February hasn't been too bad either.
Since 1999-2000, Memphis has a 76-23 record (.768 winning percentage) in February.
Last year, the Tigers posted a 7-2 record in February.
Memphis has won 47 of its last 55 games (.855 winning percentage) in the month of February.

MEMPHIS IN CONFERENCE USA

The Tigers have an all-time record of 205-65 (.759 winning percentage) in C-USA play.
Memphis posted double-digit league wins in 14 of its previous 17 seasons in Conference USA, including a school-record and league-record tying 16 games in 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09.
Last season, the Tigers won the Conference USA regular-season title with a 13-3 league mark.
Memphis won its first outright C-USA regular season title in 2005-06, and followed that with outright regular season crowns in 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2011-12.
Memphis also tied for the C-USA regular season crown in 2003-04 (12-4 record) and 1995-96 (11-3).
Memphis also won three National Division titles in 1997-98, 2001-02 and 2002-03, and captured two league White Division championships in 1995-96 and 1996-97.

The Tigers have a 157-18 overall record (.897 winning percentage) at FedExForum since moving to the arena for the 2004-05 campaign.

The 6-foot-1 guard is the 48th Tiger to reach 1,000 points and is in the No. 45 spot on the all-time scoring list.
