Tigers Pluck Golden Eagles

TULSA, Okla.- Hector Cantele led the Memphis Tigers to a 3-0 victory Wednesday night in Tulsa, Okla., against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in a non-conference match up at Case Soccer Complex.
"I am please with the result," said Head Coach Richard Mulrooney. "Any time you're on the road and facing a solid team like Oral Roberts, you're hoping your team puts in a complete performance and I thought we did that tonight. Obviously winning 3-0, we finished our chances early and often, which made the game not easier for us but it took the pressure off. When you go up 1-0 and 2-0 and then to get the third was a nice feeling as well. We were able to spread the minutes out and get the guys some minutes who haven't seen the field as much this season and get them some quality time, and start resting some legs and get ready for Friday night. Overall, just please with the win. Any time you're on the road it's tough to get a "W" and like I said Oral Roberts is a solid team and to come here and get that win is going to go far for us not only for Friday night but for our record down the road and trying to get in the NCAA tournament."
With the win, the blue and gray improved to 7-4-2 overall, 1-2-1 in conference play. ORU fell to 4-6-2 overall, 0-2-1 in league action.
Tigers were off to a roaring start in the first half. In the 26th minute, Fakhry Khulfan crossed the ball into the box to Cantele who shot it from 10 yards out and scored his fifth goal of the season.
Less than two minutes later, it was Cantele again for the UofM to propel the Tigers to a 2-0 lead. Memphis received a free kick and the ball was played in to Raul Gonzalez who played it to Cantele for the header goal, making it his sixth goal for the Tigers.
The Tigers continued to press the Golden Eagles coming out of the half. A minute into the second half of play, Cantele scored his seventh goal of the season and capped off a hat trick for the match.
The Tiger back line was stout throughout the match as well. Cody Uzcategui recorded five saves, one being an incredible save from a penalty kick. Jake Leeker also recorded some minutes of play.
The Memphis men's soccer team continues action in Oklahoma, Friday night at 6 for an American Athletic Conference match up against Tulsa.
