MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer team opens postseason play on the road against the Florida Atlantic Owls on Friday, Nov. 6 in Boca Raton, Florida.
Kickoff for the match is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Nevada Cullen and Eric Dobrzanski on the call.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (7-4-5, 2-2-4 American) enters the postseason after falling in its last two matches of the season to Charlotte and the eventual conference champion, Tulsa.
The Tigers boast one of the most high-powered offenses in the American, highlighted by three American Conference All-Second Team selections in Keanan Bader, Renan Syrio and Miller Lashlee. As a strike partnership, Syrio and Lashlee have combined for 12 goals and seven assists, with Syrio contributing a team-best eight of those goals to go with three assists. Bader has played a key role within the Memphis midfield, tallying the second-most minutes (1,134) on the team and being Memphis' primary free-kick taker, scoring two times from set pieces this season and twice from the penalty spot.
Memphis' back line has been anchored by another all-conference second-teamer in Junior Saint Juste, who has led the Tigers in minutes played with 1,212. The other starters in defense have been in flux as of late, with Jin Tokishi and Marko Stajnko drawing most starts in the final stretch of the season. Other defenders of note are Ethan Cook and Ryan Ruguaru, who have two goals and a goal and an assist, respectively.
Logan Haddad earned his first collegiate start in Memphis' regular season finale, taking a loss despite recording four saves. He sits at 0-2-0 while Mathias Christensen, who had started 10 matches in a row, sits at 3-1-5 with 31 saves and a .674 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Florida Atlantic (6-2-7, 3-2-3 American) played its way into a hosting position with inverse results to those of Memphis, earning victories in its final two matches of the year.
Offensively, the Owls have had a well-balanced attack, with four players (Michel Tentchou, Xavi Csato, Francesco Aiello, DJ Koulai) all with at least four goals, led by Tentchou's six. A key component has also come from the defense as Enzo Rabot leads the team with six assists, while Emil Lausten has three goals on the year.
Like Memphis, Florida Atlantic had four all-conference second-teamers, mainly tied to its defense with defenders Emil Lausten and Enzo Rabot, goalkeeper Alfred Mikkelsen and midfielder Jonas Sundli-Hardig all garnering recognition. Included in that grouping as well is midfielder Olle Lovdahl, who was an all-freshman team selection after playing 269 of a potential 1,350 minutes without recording a stat.
In goal, American Conference second-teamer Alfred Mikkelsen has played all but just over 10 minutes this season for Florida Atlantic, logging six clean sheets, 39 saves and carrying a 1.07 goals-against-average en route to a 6-2-7 record.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST FLORIDA ATLANTIC
The series between the Tigers and Owls holds perfectly at 2-2-2, with head coach Richard Mulrooney 2-2-1 against Florida Atlantic, including a draw earlier this season.
In that match in late September, Carson Banham and Saad Chaouki had Memphis up 2-1 in the 53rd minute before an 84th-minute goal by Kevin Gorbell leveled the match, becoming the second in a trio of matches where the Tigers led in the final 10 minutes before conceding the tying goal.
