Tigers play at Cincinnati Wednesday
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis volleyball team (9-4) opens its American Athletic Conference slate for a third straight season on the road, Wednesday. Memphis will face Cincinnati in the first American Athletic Conference match of the season at 7 p.m. (ET) in Fifth Third Arena.
Memphis is looking for its first road win of the season. The Tigers, who have just four losses in the first 13 matches of the year, suffered two of those on the road in tournament championship matches in the non-conference slate. Memphis suffered a 3-0 loss at Georgia, then fell 3-2 in the championship match at Belmont.
But the calendar is now back to 0-0 with a tough opener on the slate. Cincinnati has gone 8-2 in its last 10 matches with its two losses coming to Northern Iowa and Louisville.
Redshirt senior setter Veronica Zimmerman will lead Memphis back to her home state for her final appearance in a Tiger uniform in Ohio. The Toledo native heads in to the appearance at Cincinnati with 3,628 assists, ranking fourth in the Memphis career record book.
Junior Catlin Lilly has been one of Zimmerman's most successful targets. Lilly leads the team with 3.41 kills per set and ranks 18th in the NCAA with 0.53 service aces a set and 26th with 18 aces overall. Lilly has already posted eight 10-plus kill matches of the season after posting 10 in all of last season.
Memphis swept the regular season series with Cincinnati last year, winning 3-1 in both match-ups. Cincinnati still leads the overall series with Memphis 27-19.

Memphis returns home for its conference home opener, Sunday, when East Carolina comes to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse for a 1 p.m. match-up. A free, post-match clinic will be held for youth in grades eight and under following that match.
